Soldier marches to victory at Murray Bridge
Sep 12, 2012
Three-year-old filly Swinging Soldier confirmed her undoubted ability with a comfortable maiden success in the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tours Maiden (1406m) at Murray Bridge.
Swinging Soldier turned in a reasonable effort at her only outing as a juvenile before improving in her 19-week spell to post a strong third at her first run of the season at Morphettville.
The daughter of Soldier’s Tale finished fourth in slow ground at Morphettville at her previous start on August 22 before enjoying firmer footing in her Murray Bridge success.
Amy Herrmann reunited with Swinging Soldier in Wednesday’s $10,000 event. Luck deserted the pair in the early stages when a bad gate forced Swinging Soldier to race wide without cover but the flashy chestnut travelled comfortably under her rider until the home turn.
Swinging Soldier descended on her opposition with 300 metres to run before accelerating away to score by three lengths despite racing a touch greenly over the concluding stages.
Trainer John Hyam paid $23,000 for Swinging Soldier at the 2011 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale. The filly has now returned almost half that amount with her latest success but has the ability to easily recoup her purchase price in her career.
Congratulations for Swinging Soldier’s owners - Mrs T S Hyam, I L Cross, M Hilton, Ms M Freeman, C Robertson & G J Mack.
