Another Morphettville double for in-form Hyam
Nov 17, 2012
The John Hyam stable continued its brilliant recent run when Murtle Turtle and Almighty Bullet combined to provide the team with a double at Saturday’s Morphettville Parks meeting.
Hyam’s terrific run began when Believe In More stormed to victory at Morphettville on October 27 while Almighty Bullet scored in fine style at the same venue a week later.
Almighty Bullet’s half-brother Esprit De Bullet won well at the Adelaide track on November 10 and it took just one race for Hyam’s city streak to continue in dominant fashion.
Murtle Turtle made an encouraging start to her career with her debut second on October 27. The daughter of Murtajill improved rapidly to post her maiden success at her second outing.
Troy Baker was in the saddle again for Murtle Turtle’s appearance in the Protect Your Neck Plate (1000m). Baker put Murtle Turtle into a position trailing the leader before the filly assumed control of the $34,000 race at the 200 metres.
Murtle Turtle accelerated stylishly to score a comfortable 3-1/4-length win to become the first winner for Patinack Farm stallion Murtajill.
Almighty Bullet continued his outstanding form with his strong win in the Xmas Twilight Races Handicap (1250m).
Not much went the gelding’s way in the $34,000 event after Baker had to overcome an early wide run before gaps closed in front of Almighty Bullet rounding the home turn.
Almighty Bullet showed his zest for winning with a brilliant final furlong, which enabled the son of God’s Own to lift himself late to score what turned out to be a dominant win.
Almighty Bullet posted his fourth win in eight starts as part of the John Hyam Racing team by 1-1/2 lengths to take his earnings to more than $79,000.
