Security Index breaks through at Port Lincoln
Jan 11, 2013
Security Index gave an indication of his true ability with his dominant win in the Anvers Wines Maiden Plate (1250m) at Port Lincoln.
The three-year-old had previously mixed his form with disappointing efforts at Balaklava and Morphettville punctuating solid performances in town and at Strathalbyn.
Jockey Shayne Cahill also made the 400-kilometre trek from Adelaide to Port Lincoln to ride Security Index at his fifth start.
Cahill had to negotiate a passage for Security Index from barrier eight but the son of Host managed to travel strongly midfield early before the jockey allowed the son of Host to stride forward from the 600 metres.
Security Index improved into the race so quickly that he had joined the leaders before they reached the home turn.
Security Index got the upper hand over the runner- up Mumajet early in the straight before driving clear to score by 1-3/4 lengths.
The talented galloper earned a $6700 winner’s cheque for his maiden win, taking his earnings to $8000.
Congratulations to his owners - P K Green & Mrs R D Green.
